Budding filmmaker Lindsey Anderson Beer confirmed her departure years ago as a writer from the Silver Sable solo film. While she believed in the project, she felt it was time to move on to other projects.
For many years, Marvel Studios discussed the development of a spinoff film set in the Spider-Man universe called Silver & Black. The film would have featured the notorious cat burglar Black Cat and mercenary Silver Sable in their first feature film. However, as time passed, it was decided to split the characters into separate features, leading to a grueling period in development hell.
When asked by ComicBook.com about Silver Sable, she admitted that even she is unsure about the status of the film’s development. “I was only on it as — people hire writers as, it’s called a ‘weekly,'” she explained. With so little information about the project’s status, Anderson Beer felt she had to move on to another project to help keep her career afloat.
Anderson Beer was not the only filmmaker who ultimately had to drop the project due to slow development. The Woman King director Gina Prince-Bythewood was set to be the director back when Marvel originally wanted a Black & Silver movie. Like Anderson Beer, however, she eventually had to leave the project as soon as development started to slow down. She jokingly stated that her ordeal could make a sound basis for a book. “First, it was going to be the two of them, and then the decision was made to separate the two,” she mused to The Hollywood Reporter. “Now, there’s a thought of, ‘Hey, maybe we put it on Disney+ as a limited series,’ but I loved it more as a film with the two of them.” Even so, she hopes the film will be finally finished and released to the public.
Either way, Anderson Beer is still set to make her directing debut with Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, a prequel to Pet Sematary that follows Jud Crandall and his first encounter with the titular cemetery. Even if she is no longer attached to this Marvel project, her career will take off if her debut succeeds.
