Christian Grey may soon go toe to toe with Robin Hood. British actor Jamie Dornan is in final negotiations, it appears, to join the ensemble of Otto Bathurst’s upcoming Robin Hood: Origins. The film, which is set up at Lionsgate and has a projected production start in January, already has Kingsman star Taron Egerton enlisted to lead the film as the infamous thief who stole from the rich in order to give back to the poor.
In plans work out, Dornan will portray Will Scarlett, a member of the band of the Merry Men and he of the fine clotheshorse and sword abilities. In this rebooted take, Scarlett is upgraded in sorts as the husband to Maid Marian (to be portrayed by The Knick‘s Ewe Hewson) and an even greater foe to Robin Hood, as he begins to steal her affections away from him. Oscar winner Jamie Foxx is also aboard the ensemble as Little John. The film is expected to shoot in Budapest.
For Dornan, Robin Hood: Origins makes a possible second franchise for the Fifty Shades star. He made a significant cultural imprint as Christian Grey opposite Dakota Johnson’s Anastasia Steele in last year’s Fifty Shades of Grey and recently concluded the next two chapters: Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, which will be released over Valentine’s Day in 2017 and 2018, respectively. Recently, the actor appeared opposite Cillian Murphy in Anthropoid and The 9th Life of Louis Drax. Next on his plate is the Netflix feature Jadotville. He also recently signed on to the indie drama Untogetherness.
We will stay tuned to the latest on Robin Hood: Origins.
