Based on the play in London, the full script for Harry Potter and The Cursed Child is selling everywhere and is receiving astounding reviews. If you’re a wizarding world fan, you better hold onto to your sorting hats, Warner Bros. has announced that a Fantastic Beasts sequel is planned for release on November 16, 2018.
Potter fans will have to wait patiently for 2018, but that shouldn’t be too hard, they have plenty of other Potter-related content to keep them occupied. Due out November 18th of this year is the first Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.
Fantastic Beasts takes place seventy years before Harry Potter read Newt Scamander’s book at Hogwarts. Scamander, a former Hufflepuff, is a writer living in 1920’s New York City. Carrying a mysterious suitcase filled with magical creatures, he navigates the city while on the hunt for some creatures who have escaped. Fantastic Beasts stars Eddie Redmayne, Ezra Miller, Colin Farrell, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, and Alison Sudol.
This will be author J.K. Rowling’s screenwriting debut and she plans to pen the follow-up. Director David Yates will return as well. Yates has successfully directed the last four Potter movies plus Fantastic Beasts and the recent Legend of Tarzan.
In regards to the sequel, Warner Bros. told Entertainment Weekly in a statement, “[the sequel] moves deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world, where Newt and our other heroes have to decide on their allegiances.” Much praise is being given to Rowling. Yates recently joked at SDCC saying she’s already finished the second film, “The work is pouring out of her,” he said.
He went on to say ““The second movie introduces new characters as [Rowling] builds this part of the Harry Potter universe further. It’s a very interesting development from where we start out.”
