After announcing its release date back in April, Fantastic Beasts 3 has revealed a location shift to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. The third entry in the Harry Potter prequel series, penned by J.K. Rowling herself, has been greenlit for production and plans to begin filming next spring. All actors from the previous film, 2018’s Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald, are set to return. Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne will reprise his role as Newt Scamander, joined by Jude Law (Albus Dumbledore), Johnny Depp (Gellert Grindelwald), Katherine Waterston (Tina Goldstein), Ezra Miller (Credence Barebone), Alison Sudol (Queenie Goldstein), and Dan Fogler (Jacob Kowalski).
David Yates will also return to direct. In addition to Rowling, Harry Potter franchise collaborator Steve Kloves will return to screenwrite. “We haven’t started filming yet. We start [next] February,” Fogler said at fan convention LeakyCon in Boston earlier this year. The film will follow Redmayne as Scamander and his fellow Fantastic Beasts co-stars as they shift locations from the United Kingdom to Brazil. Production is confirmed to begin in the spring.
However, fans still have a good bit of waiting left to do and we shall see if any of the shocking reveals from The Crimes of Grindelwald pay off. Fantastic Beasts 3 is set to open Nov. 12, 2021.
