Sometimes people are just cool.
Following yesterday’s news that Bryan Cranston would be joining the Batman vs. Superman (side note: that’s what IMDb is calling the Man of Steel sequel for the moment, so that’s what we’ll go with as well) as Lex Luthor, this fan-made trailer, impressively cut together with bits of Man of Steel, The Dark Knight, Elysium, Daredevil, and more, gave us a small taste for what the upcoming movie might be like, Ben Affleck as Batman and all:
Certainly there are a couple of rough spots, but the trailer does an amazing job of imagining Ben Affleck as the Dark Knight. That opening narration? We figured this was going to be a more cerebral, detective Batman anyways, and that voice sure seems to fit the part. Quiet and contemplating without missing any of the menace Batman needs. Bryan Cranston, though never too difficult to imagine as Lex Luthor, is convincing as well. Heck, there’s even a shot of the yet-to-be-confirmed Timothy Dalton in there as Alfred.
The trailer obviously draws inspiration from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns (already considered to be a touchstone for the upcoming film) with its mechanized elements to Batman’s costume, but other elements of past Batman/Superman crossover stories are there as well. Billionaire Bruce Wayne coming into Metropolis and sweeping Lois Lane off her feet has been a story arc before, though one that would certainly be complicated given that Lois knows Clark Kent is Superman in Man of Steel. There’s also a brief suggestion of kryptonite, as Lex basks in the greenish glow of some strange device, and a business partnership between Wayne Enterprises and LexCorp is mentioned as well.
The trailer, just uploaded yesterday, is already at nearly 300 thousand hits on YouTube at the time of this posting. Well done, solyentbrak1, well done.
