Everything We Know About DC Studios Upcoming ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’

DC Studios CEO James Gunn has announced information regarding the upcoming DC movies and TV shows lineup. Among these announcements was the title of the Supergirl film after it was first announced in August 2018. 

“One of my favorite comic book series from last year was Tom King’s run on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” Gunn said. “And so we’re going to turn that into a big science fiction epic film. Now Superman is a guy who was sent to earth and raised by loving parents, where Supergirl, in this story, she’s a character who was raised on a chunk of Krypton. She watched everybody around her perish in some terrible way, so she’s a much more jaded character.”

Tom King’s run of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow went from August 2021 to April of 2022, with eight issues total. The limited series follows Kara Zor-El, A.K.A., and Ruthye, an alien girl who wants Supergirl’s help with getting revenge on those who destroyed her world.

On Twitter, Tom King reacted positively to the adoption of his work.

In 2018, it was announced, via The Hollywood Reporter, that Oren Uziel would be writing the script for the film. Uziel is known for his work in 22 Jump Street (2014), The Cloverfield Paradox (2018), and Mortal Kombat (2021).  It is unclear if Uziel already had a script before this announcement. Still, it is pretty much a given that the direction he takes the film in will be different, given that King’s Supergirl run came out three years after Uziel was announced to be penning the project.

There has yet to be a director attached to the film, although Warner Bros has expressed interest in hiring a female director for the project (Via Deadline).

Another thing that is up into the air with the potential shuffling and removal of actors is whether actress Sasha Calle, who plays Supergirl in The Flash (2023), will also be playing Supergirl in this new film. With The Flash seemingly being a resetting point for all these DC projects and the announcement that Henry Cavil would not be returning as Superman, it is well possible that Calle will not be returning for the role.
