Spa Day, an action-comedy, has Eva Longoria checking in to direct and co-star in the feature film at Sony Pictures.
Christine Pietrosh and Jessica Goldstein, creators of Telenovela, wrote the script from an original idea. Longoria just signed with WME, and now she will be pulling double duty in front of and behind the camera. Longoria has two other films lined up as director at Searchlight and Universal, Variety has learned.
Greg Silverman and Jon Berg are producing the film for Stampede Ventures and JP Sarni as an associate producer. Longoria’s partner Ben Spector will also be producing the film at their banner UnbeliEVAble Entertainment.
Longoria rose to fame on ABC’s primetime hit Desperate Housewives. She produced and directed many TV episodes, Devious Maid, The Mick, Telenovela, and Black-ish, to name a few. Longoria has credits also on ESPN 30 for 30, a documentary Versus. She is also set to direct a reimagined version of 9 to 5 at Universal, to be titled 24/7. Pietrosh and Goldstein also have credits in Cougar Town, and My Name Is Earl producing and writing together.
Last year, Longoria won the director’s chair for an empowering biopic Flamin’ Hot, about a janitor who transformed the Cheetos brand by introducing a spicy version of the snack to the corporate owner.
No word yet of what the film will be about and who else will star in it.
