News out of the Toronto Film Festival states that Eva Green (Casino Royale) has been chosen to star alongside French actress Emmanuelle Seigner (La Vie en Rose) in Based on a True Story, a written collaboration between Oscar winner Roman Polanski (The Pianist) and Olivier Assayas (Clouds of Sils Maria), Variety reports.
The film will be a psychological thriller adapted from Delphine de Vigan’s critically acclaimed novel by Polanski and Assayas with Polanski directing. This will mark Polanski’s return to film after 2013’s Venus in Fur. French filmmaker Assayas has been grabbing cinematic and critical headlines ever since the release of his Cesar award winning film Clouds of Sils Maria as well as his contentious Cannes submission this year, Personal Shopper. With his rising accreditation within Hollywood and Polanski’s infamous reputation, this will likely be a collaboration for the books.
Based on a True Story will follow a writer (Seigner) whose life and mind are hijacked by a dangerously obsessive woman (Green). Lionsgate will be selling the picture internationally, with filming to begin in November in Paris.
Seigner starred in Polanski’s Venus in Fur and has made quite a name for herself otherwise in mostly French productions. She also starred in The Diving Bell and the Butterfly and has the French film Rouges sont les reves soon to be released in which she stars opposite Gerard Depardieu. Green came on the scene in 2006’s Casino Royale and has since established herself as a dark character actress. She currently stars in the Showtime series Penny Dreadful and will soon be seen in the popular children’s adaptation Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children as the titular headmistress.
