‘Eternals’ Second Best International Debut in 2021

Marvel’s intergalactic ensemble of heroes has come ahead of its international projected numbers and has scored an amazing opening weekend of $90.7 million on the international market, as reported by Deadline. Domestically though, it has come just a little short of predictions by grossing only $71.2 million.

Eternals, by academy-award-winning director Chloe Zhao, was originally estimated to reach $75m or even $80m in the US this weekend. It fell behind in the domestic box office only by a few million. Considering it had to introduce a whole new line of superheroes and that it received the worst Rotten Tomatoes rating of any Marvel movie ever, the result isn’t so bad as debut weekends go. Internationally, Eternals did a fantastic job as it ended up in the second-best international box office ranking for an opening weekend in 2021. Combining domestic and international box office numbers for this weekend, Eternals has grossed a total of $161.7 million globally. The film did exceptionally well in South Korea with a strong $14.4million on its premiere weekend, followed by France, Australia, and Mexico.

No Time To Die, Daniel Craig’s last stretch as the famous British spy James Bond, continues to sell very well weekend after weekend. It has now reached the massive benchmark of $500 million globally, surpassing Avengers: Endgame in the UK.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Dune are still making double digits in the box office. Sony’s antihero Venom is doing incredibly well considering the film was released over a month ago now. Globally, Venom: Let There Be Carnage stands at $424.6 million and Dune at $330.4 million.
