‘Equalizer’ Screenwriter, Richard Wenk to Re-imagine the ‘Universal Solider’

Universal Solider might be coming in the near future as The Equalizer writer, Richard Wenk is said to be working on the script. In an interview last week with Discussing Film, Wenk said, he is nearly done and will be turning in the script shortly.

So far, Todd Black and Jason Blumenthal will be producing the film which is not begin called a “remake,” nor a “redo,” but a “reimagining.”

This version will feature only one sole solider rather than two which is what the original featured in 1992 with Jean Claude Van Damme.

“I had seen the movies and enjoyed them for what they were… but I didn’t see those stories and that world to be relevant today, but I thought that the title ‘Universal Solider’ and where we’re going in terms of science, and also having something to say about war, would be interesting, so we sort of just took a whole other tact, and [are] hopefully building it to have this great franchise character. One, singular,” said Wenk.
