Empire Embraces Both Light and Dark Sides of ‘Star Wars’

The upcoming October issue of Empire will feature dual-cover massive edition featuring Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens. Today, Empire released the covers, delivering both a Light side themed edition as well the Dark side. You can see both covers below.

The Dark side cover is set in space inside some sort of spaceship (possibly a new Death Star?) and has a darker tone to it. To the left side, the three main villains are features: Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie), Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and General Hux (Domhnill Gleeson). To the right, Stormtroopers are assembling with TIE fighters flying in and out into the open space. The words uttered in the original teaser hang on the right side of the cover: “There has been an awakening. Have you felt it? The dark side, and the light.”

The Light side cover is much more vibrant, set in the desert, presumably on Tatooine. The three main heroes are the left side: Finn (John Boyega), Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) with the rolling droid BB-8 in the bottom center. To right side we can see the glorious Millenium Falcon caught in the lens flare (a J.J. Abrams staple) of the sun setting. Rounding out the sunset scene are the TIE fighters coming in from the top. The left side of this issues also includes lines from the original teaser: “The Force is strong in my family. My father has it… I have it… My sister has it… You have that power too.” The original teaser trailer can be seen below.

The anticipation for Episode VII is reaching boiling levels with all the new material coming out. Over the past couple weeks, new pictures and trailers have been popping up signaling the marketing storm that the new Star Wars will deliver.

The Star Wars themed October issue of Empire hits newsstands August 27th.
