According to Deadline, Christopher Nolan looks to have found Cillian Murphy a co-star for his upcoming film Oppenheimer. Murphy was the first major piece of casting announced since Nolan officially confirmed his upcoming film. An all-star ensemble may be on the horizon for Oppenheimer with these two lead roles.
With this new announcement, actress Emily Blunt is in talks to join the film with Universal that Nolan will write and direct. She will play the wife of J. Robert Oppenheimer (Murphy), the scientist who ran the Manhattan Project that led to the invention of the atomic bomb. The film is scheduled for release on July 21, 2023.
Oppenheimer will be distributed by Universal theatrically worldwide. The film is also based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin.
Blunt had two films cross the $100 million domestic market this year, an accomplishment no other leading actor or actress has accomplished since the box office reset. She reprised her role in A Quiet Place Part II, which grossed $160 million domestically and nearly $300 million worldwide. Then she starred in Jungle Cruise alongside Dwayne Johnson, the film grossing $114 million domestically.
