Game of Thrones and Solo actress Emilia Clarke is set to play the role of Constance Lloyd, Oscar Wilde’s wife, on Sophie Hyde’s film An Ideal Wife. Embankment Films who are representing the movie, has yet to confirm the project’s plot.
Constance Lloyd married Oscar Wilde in 1884. It is rumored that the film An Ideal Wife will focus on Lloyd’s life, who was an author and feminist activist who was involved in the dress reform movement. The film will also depict Lloyd’s life after Wilde was sent to prison for homosexuality, and along with her two son’s, Lloyd fled to Switzerland.
Clarke was recently casted and will now take on this role as soon as production begins. This will be Clarke’s most recent film, after Last Christmas where she starred with Henry Golding in 2019.
The movie is being produced by Oliver Delbosc, Chris Curling, and Mathew Gedhill. Each representing Curiosa Films, Zephyr Films, and Wheelhouse Productions.
Variety mentions that, “An Ideal Wife will mark Hyde’s follow-up to “Good Luck to You, Leo Grande,” which starred Emma Thompson and Daryl McCormack and virtually premiered at Sundance and screened at the Berlinale. The pic was released domestically by Searchlight. Hyde’s feature debut, “52 Tuesdays,” won best director at Sundance and garnered a Crystal Bear prize at Berlin. Her sophomore outing, “Animals,” also played at Sundance and won best debut screenplay at the British Independent Film Awards.
As of now, there is still no date of when the movie will be released.
