Emilia Clarke Opens Up About How She Viewed Fan Reception To Several Of Her Projects

Although actress Emilia Clarke has a number of successful projects to her name, she’s also starred in her share of films that weren’t well received. She recently opened up about her work in those projects, and shared her honest thoughts on how they were perceived.

With many credits, both in long-standing franchises and smaller standalone works, Clarke’s career continues to be defined by her most iconic role: Daenerys Targaryen in HBO’s acclaimed Game Of Thrones. Her performance remains held in high regard by both fans and critics alike, even earning her several Emmy nominations as the show was running.

Come 2018, Clarke would step into the world of Star Wars, when she headlined alongside Alden Ehrenreich in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Although the film did set up for more content with Clarke’s character, it was never to be continued on film, as Solo received a lukewarm reception and flopped at the box office.

As ScreenRant points out, Solo managed to be one of the better received projects from any big franchise that she has been apart of. She starred in both 2015’s Terminator: Genisys, as well as the 2023 Disney+ series Secret Invasion. Both projects were very poorly received, and remain disliked by fans to this day.

Clarke was given the opportunity to open up about each of these projects when she spoke to Variety recently. “I don’t think no one liked that show, guys. I’m sorry! ‘Star Wars’? They didn’t like it. ‘Terminator’? That should never have happened,” she said.

ScreenRant also noted that Clarke did go on to add that she felt no ill will towards the projects, and doesn’t feel any disdain for being in poorly received outings from these big franchises. She explained that these series had already been around, and never took it personally when an installment she was involved with couldn’t stick the landing.

“My connection to a project ends when they say, ‘Picture wrap.’ Because it’s not for me to decide what people will think of it,” she told Variety.
