Elle Fanning and Julianne Moore to Lead New Margaret Wise Brown Biopic

A new film about acclaimed children’s author Margaret Wise Brown is set to bring together two of Hollywood’s biggest stars. According to Deadline, Elle Fanning and Julianne Moore have signed on to star in Moonsong: A Life in Seven Verses, an upcoming biographical drama written and directed by Rebecca Miller. The film will explore the life of Brown, the celebrated author behind beloved classics like Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny.

Rather than focusing only on Brown’s success as a writer, the movie will take a closer look at the woman behind the stories. Deadline reports that Leonard S. Marcus’ biography Margaret Wise Brown inspires the film: Awakened by the Moon and will follow Brown’s personal relationships, creative process, and the experiences that shaped her career. Rebecca Miller is writing and directing the project, while Martin Scorsese is attached as an executive producer.

Fanning and Moore continue to be among the busiest actresses in Hollywood, and their pairing has already generated excitement for the film. While Deadline has not revealed which roles they will play, both actresses are known for bringing depth and emotion to character-driven stories, making them a strong fit for a project centered on one of children’s literature’s most influential figures.

Production on Moonsong: A Life in Seven Verses is expected to begin in the spring of 2027. Although the film is still in the early stages, the creative team behind it has already made it one to watch. With an award-winning cast and a story inspired by the life of one of America’s most celebrated authors, the project is shaping up to be a thoughtful look at the woman whose books have been shared with generations of readers.
