Elisabeth Moss is a Chilling One-Woman Show in the Trailer for ‘Queen of Earth’

Alex Ross Perry‘s Queen of Earth premiered this year at the Berlin International Film Festival and has since received substantial buzz from Elisabeth Moss‘ dynamic performance. The story follows two life-long friends played by Moss and on-the-rise actress Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice) who see their relationship unravel after a trip to a lake house. Moss’ Catherine is a struggling artist on the fringe of a mental break just as the friends begin the pull apart.

The thriller reunites director and actress from last year’s Listen Up Philip. The footage features a haunting and manic voice over by Moss and showcases her nearly effortless ability to hold intense focus while conveying a host of emotions in Perry’s shots. The trailer’s release comes in tandem with the recent announcement of Moss’ Emmy nomination for her role as Peggy on the HBO series Mad Men. That, in addition to this preview of her character’s downward spiral in Queen of Earth, is enough to prove that Moss is hitting her stride.

Perry, Moss, and Drinking Buddies director Joe Swanberg produced the film. It also stars Patrick Fugit (Almost Famous), Swanberg regulars Kate Lyn Sheil and Kentucker Audley (The Sacrament), as well as Listen Up Philip actor Keith Poulson.

IFC Films will release Queen of Earth in a limited run starting August 26.
