Actress-director-producer Elizabeth Banks along with husband and Pitch Perfect 2 co-producer Max Handelman have successfully pitched an untitled holiday film about Mrs. Claus to Universal Pictures.
According to Variety, veteran TV writer and Emmy winner John Riggi (30 Rock, The Comeback, Super Fun Night) will pen the screenplay about the adventures of Mrs. Claus in the stressful weeks leading up to Christmas Day.
Banks and Handelman will produce via their company, Brownstone Productions. Riggi will executive produce. At this point, Banks is not slated to star in the feature.
Banks successfully steered her directorial feature debut,Pitch Perfect 2 to near $200 million in box office receipts last summer. She will reprise her directorial stint for the sequel, Pitch Perfect 3. Also an actress known for her comedic flair (Hunger Games franchise, Magic Mike XXL, The LEGO Movie) and dramatic gifts (Love and Mercy), Banks is among minority of female Hollywood directors today. She is currently attached to direct Universal’s Charlie’s Angels reboot and is in talks to helm Sony’s YA adaptation of Red Queen, both Brownstone projects in development.
