Well, it’s just been a glut of Marvel marketing the last couple days, hasn’t it? Never mind that the film rights to the X-Men are still the property of 20th Century Fox and all things Spider-Man still belong to Sony (with Disney owning the rest of it – rights to those two properties were licensed prior to Marvel’s sale to the Mouse House). With an aggressive (though perhaps not entirely positive) showing at Comic-Con still not out of the rear-view mirror, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 treated fans to eight new production stills (including the one at the top), showing off nearly all the major characters.
The once again features Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacey, but (as can be seen below) adds in Jamie Foxx as Electro, Paul Giamatti as the Rhino, and Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborne. If that sounds like a big movie, that’s probably because it is (and we’ll refer you again to director Marc Webb’s comments at Comic-Con – “It’s operatic.”) So big, remember, that Mary Jane was cut from the movie, and the number of sequels ballooned from two to three. Fans shouldn’t get discouraged, however. In a number of interviews Webb has stressed that Electro is the main villain, and that Rhino, Norman Osborne (Chris Cooper), and Harry Osborne are mostly being set up for the subsequent films. And then there are also these stills, which look pretty nice in their own right:
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set for a May 2, 2014 wide release.
