Amazon Studios announced the much-awaited sequel Coming 2 America from Paramount Pictures that they had secured worldwide rights to the sequel. The release date is set for March 5, 2021, on Amazon Prime Video.
The feature is a sequel to John Landis’ 1988 comedy Coming to America, which has generated more than $288 million worldwide. It is about a spoiled Crown Prince Akeem (Eddie Murphy) of the African nation of Zamunda who travels to Queens, New York, accompanied by his trustee Semmi (Arsenio Hall). He goes undercover to find a wife whom he can admire for her intellect.
Craig Brewer (Dolemite Is My Name) directed the sequel, the newly-crowned King Akeem and Semmi embark on a new journey that will take them around the globe from Zamunda to the Queens. The cast from the first film Coming to America returned for the sequel, including James Earl Jones (Lion King), Shari Headley (Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween), John Amos (Roots), and Louie Anderson (Baskets). The sequel adds Wesley Snipes (Blade), Leslie Jones (Ghostbusters), Tracy Morgan (Saturday Night Live), Jermaine Fowler (Buffaloed), Bella Murphy, Rotimi (Power), KiKi Layne (The Old Guard), Nomzamo Mbatha (IsiBaya) and Teyana Taylor (Honey 4).

This film is not the only film that Paramount Pictures has sold to streamers this year, including Chicago 7 Trial from Aaron Sorkin and the action-comedy Lovebirds, that went to Netflix. Without Remorse was sold to Amazon.
