Dwayne Johnson and filmmaker Jake Kasdan are making another movie together. Johnson’s involvement in the project, which Amazon won in a brutal bidding war, was first reported by Deadline back in June. The film is based on an original story written by Hiram Garcia, President of Production at Seven Bucks Productions, which was adapted into a script by Chris Morgan (Fast & Furious). The holiday film was previously titled Red One.
Morgan previously collaborated with Johnson on four Fast and Furious films and the 2019 Hobbs & Shaw spinoff. Morgan also contributes to the project as a producer.
The holiday film is described as a globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy that imagines a whole new universe inside the holiday genre. The goal is to go beyond a blockbuster film and into other sectors and enterprises inside the Amazon umbrella.
Following their global success on Sony’s $1.76 billion-grossing Jumanji films, Kasdan and Johnson might just have another successful movie on their hands.
Kasdan previously directed and produced the comedies Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story starring John C. Reilly and Bad Teacher-starring Cameron Diaz. It is rumored that Kasdan will officially be back to direct the sequel to 2011 Bad Teacher, but he has denied it, sighting “lack of inspiration” over the years.
The next film coming up for Johnson is the Netflix film Red Notice starring Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds, which is making its way to theaters and the streaming service very soon.
Filming has hopes to begin in 2022 and, of course, have a holiday release as it is a holiday movie.
