The Academy Awards has officially released the 2022 Oscar nominations, which sees Dune, one of the biggest blockbusters of 2021, receiving a whopping 10 nominations, including Best Picture.

Dune has also been nominated for:

Best Costume Design (Jacqueline West, Robert Morgan)

Best Sound (Mac Ruth, Mark Mangini, Theo Green, Doug Hemphill, Ron Bartlett)

Best Original Score (Hans Zimmer)

Best Adapted Screenplay (Jon Spaihts, Denis Villeneuve, Eric Roth)

Best Film Editing (Joe Walker)

Best Cinematography (Greig Fraser)

Best Production Design (Patrice Vermette, Zsuzsanna Sipos)

Best Visual Effects (Paul Lambert, Tristan Myles, Brian Connor, Gerd Nefzer)

Dune was released in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously in October of last year and raked in $399 million globally, an especially impressive theatrical takeaway for a pandemic and streaming service release. The film was met with raving reviews, and it didn’t take long for Warner Bros to greenlight the sequel, Dune: Part 2, which is set for release in October 2023.

The film stars Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, and Zendaya.

Notably missing is a nomination for director Denis Villeneuve for Best Directing. Villeneuve was previously nominated for the award for Arrival (2016), also nominated for Best Picture.

The Oscars premieres on ABC on March 27th at 5 pm PT/8 pm ET.
