Dune was released in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously in October of last year and raked in $399 million globally, an especially impressive theatrical takeaway for a pandemic and streaming service release. The film was met with raving reviews, and it didn’t take long for Warner Bros to greenlight the sequel, Dune: Part 2, which is set for release in October 2023.
The film stars Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, and Zendaya.
Notably missing is a nomination for director Denis Villeneuve for Best Directing. Villeneuve was previously nominated for the award for Arrival (2016), also nominated for Best Picture.
The Oscars premieres on ABC on March 27th at 5 pm PT/8 pm ET.
