‘Dumb and Dumber To’ Funded by Stolen Money

The makers of Dumb and Dumber To are finally under fire for making the movie. However, it’s not for the reasons that one might think: the film was funded by illegally-procured cash. Through a complaint by the Department of Justice, news has arisen that millions of dollars necessary to fund the movie were acquired illegally from an investment fund for the Malaysian government.

While some may feel gratified knowing that the Department of Justice is finally turning its eye to the makers of Dumb and Dumber To, the fact remains that those who diverted the cash have stolen upwards of $4.5 billion, some of which was also also invested in Daddy’s Home.

Those involved in the films claimed not to know they were funded via stolen money, making the only crime in their eyes to be one of taste. The cash reached the production through Red Granite Pictures, a company which is currently peacefully working with the investigation. Furthermore, in a twist that could only be directed by Bobby and Peter Farrelly (Dumb and Dumber To), the government is to claim not just the rights to the films, but their profits too, however few they may be.

After all of that difficulty, it must be comforting to know that Dumb and Dumber To netted a 29% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with the rating for Daddy’s Home at an only marginally more reassuring 31%.
