The year is ending with the release of filmmaker Adam McKay’s latest comedy, Don’t Look Up. The star-studded Netflix comedy stars Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio.McKay’s past Oscar-winning films, Vice and The Big Short have gained him recognition, so audiences can expect quite a ride for this upcoming film.
Don’t Look Up is a satirical comedy that focuses on the country’s political divide. Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence star as Dr. Randall Mindy and Dr. Kate Dibiasky, two astronomers who must travel to the U.S. to warn the population and spread information about a giant meteor heading towards the earth. Previous clips from the film show how the astronomers are attempting to warn the President of the United States, the character played by Meryl Streep, and two mindless morning television hosts portrayed by Tyler Perry and Cate Blanchett.
The film appears to be more goofy-looking than McKay’s last directorial project Vice, IndieWire reports.
“It’s definitely not as dark as ‘Vice,’” McKay claimed. ‘Vice,’ I’d say, really probably ended up being a drama with some comedy. But ‘Big Short,’ still, even though there’s drama in it – I would say [‘Don’t Look Up’] is a tad more of a comedy than ‘The Big Short’…I don’t know if the Ferrell movies, because they’re so uniquely Will Ferrell – but somewhere in between ‘The Other Guys’ and ‘The Big Short,’ I’d say, is where this one lives.”
The cast also includes A-list actors and artists such as Meryl Streep, Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Jonah Hill, and Kid Cudi.
Don’t Look Up will be released December 10 in select theaters, and will begin streaming on Netflix December 24.
