Donald Sutherland & Eme Ikwuakor to Join Roland Emmerich’s Big Budget Sci-Fi ‘Moonfall’

Roland Emmerich has yet another big budget disaster film on his hands, and this time screen legend Donald Sutherland and Inhumans star Eme Ikwuakor are joining the already star-studded cast. The two actors have been cast alongside Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson, Stanley Tucci, John Bradley and Charlie Plummer in the $100-120M sci-fi epic.

The film’s story is set in motion when a mysterious force knocks the Moon off its orbit around Earth, which sends it on a collision course that could end life as we know it. With little time before impact, a ragtag team launches a last-ditch effort to get to the moon and save the Earth from total annihilation.

Sutherland will play the man in charge of NASA’s secret archives, who struggles with his own conscience whether to expose the truth about what happened during the Apollo moon landings. Ikwuakor will play a high ranking military official and the estranged father to the son of Halle Berry’s Character.

Emmerich will produce Moonfall under his Centropolis Entertainment banner. He wrote the script with his 2012 co-writer Harold Kloser, and Spenser Cohen. The film recently received funding from Karl Spoerri and Viviana Vezzani’s recently launched SPG3 Entertainment, which will be used to fund the production’s COVID-19 safety protocols..

“We’ve been long term admirers of Roland Emmerich’s incredible range and his way of creating cultural milestones that can reach millions of people around the globe while crafting socially conscious messages at the same time,” Spoerri and Vezzani said. “We’re thrilled to partner with Centropolis on Moonfall and proud to play a small part in getting it made.”
