Don Cheadle To Star In Warner Bros. ‘Space Jam 2’

The Looney Tunes cast are all returning for the sequel to the 1996 fantasy film Space Jam. This time, however, MCU veteran Don Cheadle will be joining the cast alongside NBA legend LeBron James, a continuation of how the original sports comedy featured NBA players like Michael Jordan and Larry Bird. According to Hollywood Reporter, Terence Nance will return as the director, with Black Panther director Ryan Coogler and film editor Sev Ohanian writing the script.

Space Jam debuted at number one at the North American box office in 1996, earning more than $230 million. Yet, the film received mixed reviews; some enjoyed the varying mediums that were combined to create its premise, and others felt that the film fell short of capturing the essence of a true classic. Given how unique the techniques used to create Space Jam‘s animation effects were at that time, it’s  possible that the sequel could have a different type of aesthetic due to updated technology.

The rest of the cast includes Sonequa Martin-Green, Cassandra Star, Katie McCabe, Derrick Gilbert, Julyah Rose, Harrison White, and Bryan Scamman. It will be interesting to see if other NBA players besides James make cameos in the film.

According to IMDB, shooting for the film is currently taking place and is scheduled to premiere on July 16, 2021.
