Domhnall Gleeson and Margot Robbie to Star in ‘Goodbye Christopher Robin’ for Fox Searchlight

Fox Searchlight has announced an upcoming biopic of the Winnie the Pooh creator A. A. Milne titled Goodbye Christopher Robin. Domhnall Gleeson (Brooklyn) is set to star as the famed author alongside Margot Robbie (Focus) who will be portraying Milne’s wife Daphne. Simon Curtis (Woman in Gold) is directing the picture based on a screenplay written by Frank Cottrell Boyce (Millions) and Simon Vaughn (War and Peace).

Damian Jones (The Lady in the Van) and Steve Christian (Belle) are on board as producers and will serve as a project under Jones’ first look deal at Fox Searchlight.

Goodbye Christopher Robin will not only tell the origin story of the popular children’s character, but also of a family and the collaboration that led to Winnie the Pooh’s creation. Author Milne originally conceived of the idea from his son, Christopher Robin, and his toys. The entire family – Milne, Christopher Robin, his wife Daphne, and their nanny Olive – are swept up in the international success of the books when they take off during the period after the First World War. With the spotlight on the young boy at the center of the family, however, the fame takes a toll.

Co-heads of production at Fox Searchlight, David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield, said in a statement:

We are thrilled to be partnering with Damian Jones and Steve Christian again and can’t wait to see Simon Curtis’ unique vision come to life.  In Domhnall and Margot we have the next generation of acting talent who we know will shine a beautiful light on A. A. Milne’s incredible and enduring story.
