Disney has officially released the trailer for its live-action remake of the 1937 animated classic Snow White. Starring Rachel Zegler as the iconic princess, this new adaption promises to bring a fresh take on a timeless story. The trailer introduces Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen and Andrew Burnap in the lead male role of Johnathan.
Fans of the original story will be thrilled to see the seven dwarfs—Grumpy, Sneezy, Dopey, Sleepy, Happy, Bashful, and Doc—return to the screen. We can expect to see some humorous scenes and heartfelt moments.
The trailer offers a glimpse of fairy tale magic, such as the castle, magic mirrors, enchanting forests, friendly animals, poisonous apples, and above all, adventure. In a pivotal moment in the trailer, Snow White tells the Evil Queen, who is also her Stepmother, “the people need some kindness.” The Evil Queen retorts that Snow White’s opinion is very bold and later vows to “be the fairest of them all.” This dark confrontation forces Snow White to flee into the woods, setting the stage for a struggle between good and evil.
This reimagining draws inspiration from the classic tale from the Brothers Grimm, where a princess finds refuge with seven dwarf miners after being exiled by her stepmother. The story itself is rooted in folklore, and Disney’s adaptation in 1937 transformed it into the first full-length animated feature film, softening its darker elements. It will be thrilling to see what this new adaptation will hold.
Rachel Zegler, born on May 3, 2001, has gathered critical acclaim since her debut as María in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story (2021). She has also appeared as Anthea in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Lucy Gray Baird in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Zegler is currently making her Broadway debut, playing Juliet in a revival of Romeo + Juliet. Her talent is certainly exceptional, particularly her vocal abilities.
Directed by Marc Webb, known for The Amazing Spider-Man, the film features a screenplay by Greta Gerwig, who gained recognition for her work on Barbie, alongside Erin Cressida Wilson, known for The Girl on the Train. The film is produced by Marc Platt, who previously worked on the hit Wicked. Audiences can also look forward to original songs by the EGOT-winning duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, known for their work on La La Land and Dear Evan Hansen.
Mark your calendars—Snow White is set to hit theaters on March 21.
