Kenny Ortega’s Hocus Pocus is one of the most beloved children’s Halloween films. Although it wasn’t exactly hit when it first came out in 1993, it has since become a cult classic. Being such a monumental film to many, when the news broke that there were talks for a sequel, fans were ecstatic. Currently, the only thing that was released to the public is that the original cast of witches (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy), will reprise their roles, but what about the rest of the cast?
According to Screen Rant, Bette Midler says that not only is the original cast returning, but many who worked behind the camera will be returning as well: “We’re trying to see who’s available and who’s still out there and still working and who can come back”. The original director Kenny Ortega, will not be working on the sequel though. Adam Shankman, known for films such as A Walk to Remember and Hairspray, will be taking over this job. With a different director being attached to Hocus Pocus, it begs the question how this will change the overall feeling of the film.
With sequels and reboots being so popular right now, it’s not a surprise that such a nostalgic film is coming back to the screen. There is no release date as of late. It is rumored to be shown in theaters in 2021, however with current affairs being what they are, an October date might be wishful thinking, but just in time for Halloween.
