It’s no surprise that Christopher Robin, the upcoming film about everyone’s favorite stuffed teddy bear who resides in the Hundred Acre Wood, is headed toward a wonderful opening weekend.
The film is expected to reach top numbers this weekend with predicted domestic box office numbers between $20 and $30 million. The only real competition facing the live action Winnie the Pooh film is Mission Impossible – Fallout. The sixth film in the popular series starring Tom Cruise made an astounding $61.2 million in its opening weekend last week. Mission Impossible – Fallout will need to fall a staggering 50% or more in order for Christopher Robin’s numbers to beat it out, and the likelihood of that is rather small.
The much anticipated Disney film directed by Marc Forster follows an adult Christopher Robin (Ewan McGregor) who has lost his sense of imagination after growing up. Right when Christopher is on the verge of giving up, his old friends Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, Eeyore, Rabbit, and everyone else comes back to help his rediscover the magic he’d lost.
Other cast members portraying A.A. Milne’s classic characters include Brad Garrett, Jim Cummings, Toby Jones, Nick Mohammed, Peter Capaldi, and Sophie Okonedo.
Other films set for release this weekend include The Spy Who Dumped Me, The Darkest Minds, and the controversial Death of Nation.
The Spy Who Dumped Me is expected to reach numbers between $10 and $15 million, but Death of a Nation will be harder to pin down due to its background. It currently holds a zero percent on Rotten Tomatoes, and its release has been pegged down to 1,002 locations nationally.
