Disney is expanding its Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge theme park attraction beyond the current era, according to ScreenRant.
First opening in 2019, Galaxy’s Edge takes place in the Black Spire Outpost on the world of Batuu as part of the Outer Rim Territories of the sci-fi franchise’s galaxy. Set during the time of the sequel trilogy, visitors can interact with characters from those films and shows, such as Rey Skywalker, The Mandalorian, and Grogu, while they battle the villainous Kylo Ren and the First Order.
Now, later this year, Disney plans to expand the timeline of the area to include the Civil War and New Republic narratives from the original trilogy, with changes that include bringing back characters such as Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Darth Vader. In addition, John Williams’ original scores from the 1977, 1980, and 1983 films will be brought back to be played throughout the area.
Asa Kalama, the VP, Executive – Creative & Interactive Experiences of Walt Disney Imagineering, the builders and designers behind the attraction, spoke about the additions in an interview, saying,
Since the very inception of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, we really always imagined it as a platform for storytelling…That’s part of the reason we designed this sort of neutral, Wild West sort of space town, because it allowed it to be a framework under which we could project different stories. And with the upcoming Mandalorian and Grogu film coming out later this year, and then next year being the 50th anniversary of Star Wars, it just sort of felt like a really wonderful time to focus on this different and more classic era of Star Wars storytelling.
The new version of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will debut in Disneyland in Anaheim, California, on April 29, 2026.
