At D23, Disney unveiled some major plans for their future projects. Not only did Disney release some new details about Frozen 2, they also teased information about their next animated feature film, Raya and the Last Dragon.
Some concept art for the movie can be seen on Disney’s official Twitter account. According to Screen Rant the story and art style of Raya and the Last Dragon is inspired by Southeast Asian mythology and legends. The creators claim to have taken inspiration from Vietnamese, Indonesian, and Thailandia cultures. The story will follow the journey of the warrior Raya as she travel across the fantasy world of Kumandra in search of the last dragon. Accompanying Raya on her quest is a rag tag bunch of misfits.

The movie Raya and the Last Dragon will star actress Cassie Steele as the titular heroine Raya alongside Awkwafina who will be voicing Sisu, the last dragon that is mentioned in the title. The movie’s script was written by writer Adele Lim, who is best known for adapting Crazy Rich Asians, while animators Paul Briggs and Dean Wellins will be directing. Briggs and Wellins had previously worked on Big Hero 6, Zootopia, and Frozen.
Raya and the Last Dragon is expected to be released in fall of 2020.
