Disney Shuts Down Production for ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Due to Letitia Wright Injury

The production of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has temporarily been shut down due to Letitia Wright’s injury. Production will come to a halt on Thanksgiving weekend and is estimated to resume early in 2022.

Actress Letitia Wright suffered an injury earlier this year during the shooting of an action sequence on the set of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Director Ryan Coogler and the rest of the cast and crew however were able to continue filming scenes in which the actress was not involved, until now. The injury she suffered back in August in a Boston location is healing slower than expected and will ultimately slow down the filming. According to Variety, production is coming to a full stop starting Thanksgiving weekend and will not recommence until Spring of 2022.

Letitia Wright joined the cast of the hugely successful Black Panther movie in 2018 as King T’Challa’s sister, Shuri. The actress is expected to take on a more central role in the sequel, possibly becoming the Queen of Wakanda as she is the only successor to the throne. Chadwick Boseman’s tragic passing in 2020 due to cancer abruptly ended a very promising career and terminated the story of a Marvel character that had become a fan-favorite overnight.

Letitia Wright is joined in the Black Panther sequel by Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba, and Angela Bassett. The film is set to release on November 11th of 2022, after being delayed due to various reasons, among them the pandemic and Ms. Wright’s injury.
