Edle Bakke, a veteran script supervisor with thirty years of experience at Disney, recently died at 91 years old. Bakke’s niece Lucile Boshe confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Bakke passed away March 10th at her home in Oxnard, California.
Bakke was born 1927 in Brooklyn, but moved with her family to Los Angeles in 1941. After Bakke graduated from North Hollywood High School in 1945, she was hired by the Walt Disney Co. as a secretary for the all-female Ink & Paint department for animated projects. She then went on to work for director Ward Kimball on the 1995 episode “Man in Space” one of many influential installments in The Magical World of Disney series.
Bakke became the first person trained by Disney to be a live-action script supervisor, overseeing films like Old Yeller (1957) and Toby Tyler, or Ten Weeks With a Circus (1960), as well as TV shows like Davy Crockett, The Hardy Boys, and The Mickey Mouse Club. Other credentials included the TV show Gunsmoke between 1961-1970, and the movies Hatari! (1962), Escape to Witch Mountain (1975), and Tron (1982).
Before Bakke retired she worked on one season of the show MacGyver. In August 2017, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences celebrated Bakke and her sister Lucile for their contribution to animation. Bakke leaves her sister and niece among her survivors.
