Disney is making tough decision after tough decision as the studio confirmed that Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel will force a seven month delay for The King’s Man, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Last Duel, a Fox-managed film, is slated for a limited release date smack dead on Christmas December 25, 2020 and will experience the glory of the big screen once January 8, 2021 comes around. Featuring an all star cast of Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Adam Driver, and Jodie Comer, The Last Duel tells the real life account of the final legally sanctioned duel in France and is primarily based off of Eric Jager’s revenge dramatic novel of the same name.
The news of this release date prompted Disney to push back the release of The King’s Man, which was initially suppose to open February 14, 2020, toward a much later September 18, 2020 premiere. Matthew Vaughn will be at helm of the film, which will serve as a prequel to his previous two installments in the Kingsman franchise. The King’s Man explores the origins of the first private intelligence agency in the midst of World War I, with Ralph Fiennes locked in as the film’s lead.
Disney made several other changes to its calendar this weekend, including moving Ron’s Gone Wrong and Nimona to 2021 and 2022 respectively.
