Disney Announces Sequel to ‘Stargirl’

Disney has just announced their plans to make a sequel to the movie Stargirl. This Disney movie has no connection with the DC super heroine Stargirl, who has her own television series that is also named Stargirl. This Stargirl movie is based off of the 2000 young adult novel of the same name by author Jerry Spinelli. It was directed by Julia Hart, and the script was written by Kristin Hahn, Julia Hart, and Jordan Horowitz. The movie starred Grace VanderWaal as the titular Stargirl and Graham Verchere as the protagonist Leo.

Both the book and the Disney movie follow the story of an ordinary boy named Leo who lives in Arizona. One day a strange manic pixie dream girl called Stargirl transfers to Leo’s school. Though the entire student body finds Stargirl weird, Leo finds himself falling in love with the eccentric girl.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Julia Hart will be returning for the sequel, and the sequel’s script will be written by Hart and Horowitz. The book actually has a sequel titled Love, Stargirl, which follows Stargirl’s life after the end of the first novel. However it currently unknown if this second movie will adapt the plot of Love, Stargirl or if it will be based on a completely original story.
