Director Patty Jenkins’ ‘Wonder Woman 3’ Will “Probably” Be Her Last in the Franchise

Director Patty Jenkins did not disappoint eager DC fans with the first Wonder Woman movie back in 2017, incorporating plenty of fire, action, humor and confidence into the franchise’s first film, with Gal Gadot blooming into superhero (and star) right on screen. Her masterful display of women as fierce and loyal, as well as empathetic, struck the perfect chord with many viewers, leading to much anticipation for the next film in the franchise, Wonder Woman 1984.

Jenkins also helmed the franchise sequel which is currently scheduled for a release on October 2, 2020, pandemic-willing. During Brazil’s 2019 comic convention CCXP, Jenkins and Gadot also revealed that Wonder Woman 3 and an Amazon-centered spinoff were also in the works.

However, per a recent interview with German magazine Geek (via @DCMovieNews2), Jenkins says that the third installment in the Wonder Woman series will most likely be her last work in the franchise. While talking about her overall view on the Wonder Woman trilogy, she also slipped in some news of her future plans moving forward.

“W84 gave me a chance to do a lot of things that I couldn’t accommodate in the first movie. I was so happy to tell the Wonder Woman origin story. It was almost her birth, but we really haven’t seen what she is capable of,” Jenkins said. “It is exciting for me to show her at the peak of her strength. But it is also very important that she fights an internal struggle: she is a Goddess and tries to help humanity. She is not only someone who fights evil, she tries to show bad people how to improve. It’s an interesting dilemma. The next one is probably my last Wonder Woman movie, so I have to put everything I want to show there. We have to think carefully.”

While nothing so far is definite, it is still a bittersweet revelation for fans who have enjoyed Jenkins’ work within the franchise. Nonetheless, with Wonder Woman 3 “probably” being her last Wonder Woman film, she has resolved to “put everything I want to show there,” something fans can also look forward to.
