Rupert Wainwright Is No Longer Directing Miles Teller’s Survival Drama ‘Not Without Hope’

Rupert Wainwright will no longer direct Not Without Hopethe upcoming biographical survival drama with Miles Teller in the lead role.

Not Without Hope was expected to be one of the first films to go back into production after the universal halt from the coronavirus pandemic. Now, the project will need to find someone to fill in the directorial role soon since the team had scheduled to start shooting this August in the Dominican Republic. This means that the search for a new director will most likely push back the production timeline.

Wainwright, whose works include Stigmata, The Fog, and Blank Check, left the team because of “creative differences.”

No theatrical release date has been announced.

Not Without Hope is centered around Nick Schuyler, who managed to survive hours in the freezing water after his boat capsized in the Gulf of Mexico. Schuyler was on a fishing trip with three friends, two of whom were Oakland Raiders linebacker Marquis Cooper and free-agent NFL defensive lineman Corey Smith. Eventually, their brutal ordeal became a major news story.

The movie project is based on the best-selling memoir of the same name by Schuyler, with Jere Longman. E. Nicholas Mariani penning the screenplay. The project was picked up at this year’s virtual Cannes Film Market.

Teller joined the Not Without Hope crew back in June. Currently, he has his plate full of other upcoming projects besides Not Without Hope, including Top Gun: Maverick with Tom Cruise and After Exile.
