Roman Israel, Esq. is the name of the new law film that will be featuring Academy Award-winning actor Denzel Washington as the lead character. Washington is a well-decorated actor, winning a variety of awards including three Golden Globes, a Tony, and two academy awards (for his roles in Glory and Training Day). He most recently directed and starred in Fences, which was nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
Previously going by the title Inner City, Roman Israel, Esq. will tell the story of a Los Angeles attorney who is asked to join a large law firm conveniently after his partner of many years dies. He will take on a case that will change his life forever, according to Hollywood Reporter.
The film is currently being directed by Dan Gilroy, who last directed the popular thriller Nightcrawler and was the writer of Kong: Skull Island. Colin Farrell (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Totall Recall [2012]) and Carmen Ejogo (Alien: Covenant, The Purge: Anarchy) have also been cast for the film. Roman Israel, Esq. is being produced by a whole host of companies including Sony Pictures, Cross Creek Pictures, Image Nation, Charles D. King’s Macro, and Topic and Bron. The film currently does not have a release date, but looks to be released during the winter season.
