Denzel Washington Becomes Franchise Actor Through ‘The Equalizer’ Trilogy

Denzel Washington in Sony's 'The Equalizer' (2014)

Denzel Washington’s (Training Day, Man on Fire) role as Robert McCall in the Equalizer franchise caused intrigue as he doesn’t consider himself a franchise actor. The role fit him so well that he decided to continue it with two more films after the debut film premiered in 2014. The series will receive two more installments after the third film,

The film centers around Robert McCall, an ex-secret agent, in an attempt to live a quiet life. However, trouble always finds its way back to him, making the quiet life difficult. He gives the bad guys a fair warning before the action comes in, telling of his kind nature to give them the benefit of the doubt. He does have the potential to hurt them, but chooses grace before harm.

The action-thriller series stars Washington, Ashton Sanders (Moonlight, All Day and a Night), Bill Pullman (While You Were Sleeping, Sleepless in Seattle), Chloë Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass, The Fifth Wave), Dakota Fanning (Uptown Girls, Coraline), David Denman (The Office, Joy Ride), David Harbour (Stranger Things, Black Widow), Gaia Scodellaro (State of Consciousness, A Taste for Murder), Martin Csokas (Sleeping Dogs, Kingdom of Heaven), Melissa Leo (The Fighter, Frozen River), Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us, The Mandalorian) and Sonia Ammar (Scream: Winx Club: The Secret of the Lost Kingdom). The trilogy was directed by Antoine Fuqua (Michael, Tears of the Sun).

The first two films are available to watch on Prime Video, while the third could be streamed on Disney+ and Hulu.
