Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand Star in ‘Macbeth’

With over 40 film adaptations, William Shakespeare’s Macbeth will get yet another film reboot starring Denzel Washington as Macbeth and Frances McDormand as Lady Macbeth, according to Variety. Joel Coen, director for films such as The Big Lebowski and Fargo, will be directing the film. Coen plans on shooting by the end of the year and will be basing the project on a script he wrote himself.

The Bard’s play centers on Macbeth who begins the work with possessing the title of Thane. He encounters the supernatural realm in the form of three witches called the Weird Sisters. Their prophecies of his future along with his wife Lady Macbeth’s thirst for power force him to take mental leaps to imagine his alleged future position as king, carrying out the necessary steps to achieve that goal, even if it entails murder.

Washington was most recently involved in The Equalizer 2, which was successful at the box office, making $190 million globally. He will be starring in the thriller, Little Things, and taking a role behind the camera as director for Journal For Jordan starring Michael B. Jordan.

McDormand recently finished working on Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch, starring alongside Timothee Chalamet and Saoirse Ronan and has wrapped up with the drama, The Nomad. Both films will be released in 2020.
