While nothing official has been confirmed, there are rumors floating around that actor Jonah Hill will be joining the cast of Matt Reeves’ The Batman as one of the Caped Crusaders iconic foes. According to Screen Rant, if these rumors are true Hill would either be playing the Penguin or the Riddler.
In the comics the Penguin, real name Oswald Cobblepot, is usually depicted as a short stout beak nosed man who often wears a monocle and a tuxedo that makes him look like penguin. He was famously played by the late Burgess Meredith in the original Adam West show, and then given a more monstrous portrayal by Danny DeVito in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns. His most recent live-action portrayal was by Robert Lord Taylor on Gotham. While Hill has the correct body type to play Penguin, Collider is convinced that Hill will be cast as the Riddler.
The Riddler, alter ego of Edward Nigma, is a criminal who bases his crimes around riddles and puzzles in order to prove his superior intellect against Batman and the people of Gotham. An eccentric version of Riddler was played by Jim Carrey in Batman Forever, but the Riddler really became popular after Frank Gorshin played the character on the 60’s Batman show. Most comic book depictions of the Riddler portray him as a tall, lanky man dressed in a green question suits.
Right now all we know is that Jeffrey Wright is in talks to play James Gordon and Robert Pattinson is going to be Batman. We are not even certain if Hill will be involved in the movie at all.
