‘Death Of A Unicorn’ Receives Poor Reviews Ahead Of Its Theatrical Release

A24’s newest film has garnered a mix of reviews. Death of a Unicorn premiered at SXSW. The film was met positively and curated buzz. The established company that is A24, and the stacked cast, including Paul Rudd, Jenna Ortega, Anthony Carrigan, Richard E. Grant, and more, added to the chatter surrounding the movie.

However, the film currently holds a 59% on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics less than impressed. One reviewer from The Seattle Times said “Horror comedy, alas, is a tricky balance, and making a movie dance on a unicorn’s horn is trickier still; this one clearly needed a little more unicorn dust.”

A positive review from ScreenRant’s Mae Abdulbaki said “The film is meant to be seen with an audience who will laugh along with you as the exceptionally gory kills get more vicious. One particular death had the audience clapping, which is exactly the reaction it needed. The film’s payoff is great, too, landing with a balance of heartwarming emotion, humor, and a surprising kill. Death of a Unicorn is the kind of film that’s happy to take us on a bloody, uproarious ride and I was more than willing to let it.” With this review being taken into consideration the audience aspect of the theatrical release could boost its Rotten score.

Death of a Unicorn will hit theaters on March 28, then a wide array of audiences can formulate their thoughts. Which may change the film’s current score.
