In news that will surprise no one, leaked footage of the Deadpool trailer from Comic-Con has surfaced. The trailer includes part of the test scene released last year as well as new footage featuring Ryan Reynolds (Self/Less) as the wise-ass hero, in addition to co-stars Morena Baccarin (Serenity), T.J. Miller (Big Hero 6), and Gina Carano (Fast and Furious 6).
Reynolds plays Wade Wilson, a former Special Forces operative diagnosed with multiple forms of cancer, who submits for experimental treatment that will accelerate his healing power, in exchange for his services as a rogue operative.
The biggest takeaway from the footage is that the ‘R’-rated Deadpool will stand out from the superhero films we’re used to. While some, like the Kick-Ass series, have turned the genre on its head by featuring ultra-violence, very few have included the irreverent humor that has made the Deadpool character a cult-favorite.
Reynolds has long been a known fan of the character and even got to play him in the widely maligned – even by Reynolds himself – X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The film even pokes fun at Reynolds’ failed superhero roles, including a jab at The Green Lantern – “Don’t make the super suit green. Or animated!” Reynolds is also a producer on the film, which is set to be released on February 12, 2016.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see Fox pull a similar move as Warner Bros and release an HD version of this footage, as the bootleg copy will surely spread across the internet.
