‘Deadpool 3’ In Development; X-Force May Feature Prominently

The Fox wing of the Marvel Comics canon has been under some stress recently given the recent diminishing returns, both creatively and commercially, for this past summer’s X-Men: Apocalypse and the behind-the-scenes turmoil from upcoming projects Gambit and Deadpool 2 (both have had prominent behind-the-scenes exits). Bluntly, there’s lot of unknowns as to the fate of the X-Men universe and where it stands – Hugh Jackman is soon to be stepping down as Wolverine (with the upcoming Logan to be his reported swan song), while many recent fixtures of the franchise (including actors Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence) have yet to renegotiate surely tenuous contracts. One thing remains, Deadpool (bolstered by its record-breaking $782 worldwide gross earlier this year), is a top priority.

In a bid of good news to come out, Fox appears on track to already be in the early stages of development on Deadpool 3 – even as the still-be-made second chapter is coming to the blows of losing director Tim Miller (John Wick‘s David Leitch is currently in negotiations to take over). The third chapter, according to The Hollywood Reporter might revolve around a “storyline that will involve another X-team, X-Force.” If this comes to pass, Ryan Reynolds’ anarchic title character may share the screen alongside characters that include Cable, Psylocke, Archangel and Colossus. Based on previous reports, Cable may be featured heavily in Deadpool 2. The characters of Psylocke and Archangle would be making their screen debuts if plans come to pass.

Fox and the creative powers of the X-Men universe – namely Bryan Singer and writer-producer Simon Kinberg – have, reportedly, toiled on a X-Force cinematic outing before – a film was even once put into development before replace by X-Men: Apocalypse. Inside the hard R-rated Deadpool canon may seem a more logical place; Kinberg and Reynolds have previously indicated as such.

The outlook in the end may be heading in a more positive direction over at Fox once talent is put into place. We shall stay tuned to latest.
