Marc Webb’s next film is on the horizon, with Lionsgate set to drop Day Drinker in theaters March 26, 2027. The film will star Johnny Depp, Madelyn Cline, and Penélope Cruz, marking major role for Depp in a return to the big screen.
The film will follow a mysterious day drinker (Depp) who encounters a bartender (Cline) on a private yacht, setting off a nefarious plot that gets them mixed up in crime. The trailer begins with a voiceover from Depp, who looks disheveled as he is forced to the ground and arrested. There’s an eerie look in his eyes that permeates throughout the whole trailer, with Cruz’s first appearance signaling that there will be some type of supernatural element at play.
Depp’s character says in the trailer, “My story, perhaps it’s a tale of revenge, or perhaps something worse. What if all this is a ghost story? Or maybe I’m just another day drinker.”
The film’s plot is still a mystery, but assumptions can be made that Depp is seeking revenge. He can be seen holding a locket that has a picture of what looks to be him with a wife and child, before the trailer cuts to a woman sinking in water. The film also promises to have action, as Depp can be seen getting cornered by the shore by men wielding axes and guns.
The trailer concludes with Depp saying, “I’m done, when I say I’m done…”, which also cleverly nods to Depp’s recent story in Hollywood. Zach Dean penned the script for the film, also producing alongside Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Adam Kolbrenner, Dean and Nathan Kahane. The executive producers list is extensive, and includes: Dan Friedkin, Micah Green, Daniel Steinman, Stephen Deuters, Jason Forman, Sam Sarkar, Webb, Eric Sherman, Sarah Hong, Scott LaStaiti, Adrián Guerra and Xavier Parache.
