David Koechner Screens Short Film Via Instagram

We spend most of our time here at mxdwn Movies talking about theatrical feature films (and will continue to do so), but every now and then it’s worth taking the time to pull back and remember that we live in an incredible world of digital filmmaking, where the ability to produce movies of all shapes and sizes is more widespread than ever. From the professional scene, where high-end digital cameras like the RED cameras Peter Jackson shot The Hobbit on, to DSLRs, to surprisingly effective smartphone cameras, it’s cheaper and easier than ever to make high quality movies. Or, as YouTube has proved beyond a shadow of a doubt, really stupid, funny nonsense.

Which brings us to David Koechner’s new short, which probably falls a little closer to that latter extreme. The comedy regular and co-star of Anchorman (as sportscaster Champ Kind) recently posted an 8-part short on Instagram, with each part consisting of just a fifteen second clip. The short follows the misadventures of Steady and Shakes, a pair of cops more in the mold of Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg from The Other Guys than Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena in End of Watch. Harland Williams (Freddy Got Fingered, Employee of the Month) appears as Shakes alongside Koechner’s Steady.

The entire short can be seen here on Koechner’s Instagram.
