News broke out recently with James Gunn revealing the cast members for the soft reboot of 2016‘s Suicide Squad. As many have voiced their displeasure for the David Ayer film, Suicide Squad‘s shadow still looms large over the DC labeled film. The film was highly anticipated at the time, even drawing positive box office records and an Oscar. However, overtime the film critically just couldn’t work, with Jared Leto voicing his displeasure of certain scenes being cut from the film and a underwhelming cast.

Unfortunately fans can be unforgiving, as many heads are involved in these blockbuster films. Many decisions have to be met and acted on but sometimes the producers have a larger say than the ones who envision a film. In this case it would be Ayer, who tweeted out his defense for the film and how it turned out.

David that’s really mean spirited. I understand the nature of your job and the necessity to grab eyes. David Ehrlich, a film critic for Indiewire caught Ayer’s attention with his statements and followed up with a tweet explaining his frustration with the original film.

In the world of comics book film adaptations, the pitch that brought to executives still don’t match the final product. In Ayer’s case, he was only defending those that can’t respond for themselves, but still dedicate their time to produce a film that fans can hopefully enjoy.
