Dave Bautista (Blade Runner 2049, Avengers: Infinity War) remains one of James Gunn’s most vocal defenders since Gunn’s old tweets resurfaced, resulting in his firing from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The tweets were from 2008, when Gunn joked about pedophilia and rape. These tweets had previously surfaced in 2012, and Gunn apologized then. Once the story broke for second time in July of this year, Bautista was quick to voice his defense of Gunn.
Regardless, Gunn remains fired, and it seems unlikely that Disney will rehire him anytime soon. It is currently unknown what will happen to Gunn’s script for the threequel. Adding a new complication to the saga, Bautista is now threatening to leave Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 if they do not use Gunn’s script. Gunn finished the first draft of the script early this summer, tweeting “Every bit of my heart.”. The script is allegedly poised to dramatically conclude many of the story arcs for these beloved characters.
Bautista has made it clear through Twitter how much he does not like working for Disney right now. Other cast members, along with Bautista, signed letter to Disney voicing their support for Gunn. It is currently unclear where the other cast members stand after sending the letter, but if Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper join Bautista in threatening to quit, this drama is definitely heating up rather than cooling down.
