The Tribeca Festival has announced that next year’s event will taking place from June 3rd-14th. The multi-media festival began back in 2002 and is celebrating its 25th edition next year. It was founded by Jane Rosenthal, Craig Hatkoff and Robert De Niro in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The idea was to breathe life back into Manhattan and offer an opportunity to bring artists and creatives together. Jane Rosenthal said in a statement, “Twenty-five years ago, we started Tribeca to bring people back downtown following the 9/11 terrorist attacks and to bring storytellers and audiences together. Since then, Tribeca has become a home for bold ideas and powerful voices, a place where culture is shaped and new forms of storytelling are discovered. Our 25th festival will honor where we’ve been and boldly look ahead.” Additionally, Robert De Niro added, “As we celebrate 25 years of Tribeca, I’m reminded of why we started it in the first place: to support artists and bring people together through stories. It’s been incredible to see how the Festival has grown and evolved, and I couldn’t be prouder of what it has become. This anniversary is about celebrating the artists, audiences and New York City itself.”

The festival has expanded past just a festival, now including all sorts of creative mediums. Tribeca will begin accepting submissions beginning in October. Besides feature films, the Tribeca Festival also showcases TV, shorts, games and podcasts. Additionally, their Tribeca NOW program allows submissions of online work for social media influencers and online personalities.
